‘Mount La Verna’ is one of the original paintings used in the film Finding Saint Francis . In these paintings Angela Thomas was commissioned to give the audiences a glimpse into the places most closely associated with the Franciscan story. In these watercolours she brilliantly brings to life the feeling of the Italian landscape.
Mount La Verna – by Angela Thomas
Mount La Verna was given to Francis and his brothers as a wild, remote mountain where they could go for periods of contemplation. It was given to them by Lord Orlando of Chuisi who later joined the Third Order of the Franciscans. It was here that Francis spent six weeks alone on an outcrop of rock with only a falcon for company and where he received the first stigmata recorded in history. This picture is a favourite of the artist.
